The UK audience that read newspapers-
You don't have regular work but you can be called in at any time for random amounts of hours. Compare Social Demographic audience of the 2 newspapers? The Social Demographics of the audience for the Times is there mostly Middle Class and Conservative. This is because firstly the Times is a broadsheet so it uses much more complex writing structures and more serious articles. Furthermore the Times is biased towards the Conservatives which means it favors the rich side as Conservatives are more traditional aiming for keeping money. The Audience for the Daily Mirror is more likely to be Working Class and Labour. This is because it has simpler articles and also because the newspaper favors the Labour party which the working class can relate to more as they're also in need help. What are the age distributions for both newspapers? The largest audience for both the newspapers is 65+ this is because they would be more used to this from their childhood as unlike us they didn't have phones. As they don't use social media they would be more comfortable using newspapers to gain their information, furthermore they are petitioner so they have more free time to fill, in which they can use the newspaper for entertainment. How Newspaper relates to Theories Newspapers fulfill the Uses and Gratifications theory as they provide a Diversion and help pass spare time as well as entertain us. Furthermore newspapers is offers us information about our community giving us a sense of surveillance. You can also interact with newspapers but writing forms on it and doing the fun activities such as crosswords and sodukos. In this scenario the audience is ACTIVE as it chooses what to read in the newspaper and if to read the newspaper at all. But this would then conflict with the hypodermic needle theory which suggests that the audience is PASSIVE and simply absorbs everything it reads, which I guess is true to an extent.
