The Syringe Theory simply suggests that the audience takes in all they see, hear in the media and believe it. It's called the syringe theory because our brain acts like a syringe soaking up all the media.
This sometimes has very negative effects when the information is wrong and may be offensive to others. It is important to understand that in the syringe theory the audience is PASSIVE therefore it has no knowledge of what is happening as it comes naturally. An example of syringe theory which many women might be a victim too is makeup and brands. When people they look up to: celebrities, actors, models, youtubers consume a certain brand or style the audience would automatically think of this product more highly and therefore more inclined to buy it. This way the idea of the product being is good is taken in because of the highly thought of celebrity. This may be a positive and negative situation, as the product may actually be good or might turn out trash and simple advertising. |
